G.E.R.C.C.M.A.

The Group of Canine Disaster Rescue Specialists – Arcón Method, was founded in September 2010, after some of its members took part in the missions following the earthquakes in Haiti and Chile and saw that the fastest and most effective way to respond to this kind of disaster was through an NGO dedicated to searching for people trapped alive under any kind of debris.

All our handlers are professional firefighters from different fire and rescue services.

WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT TO MAKE AN ARCÓN METHOD TRAINING PROGRAMME FOR UKRAINE POSSIBLE

From 14 July to 2 August, for 21 uninterrupted days and given the exceptional circumstances of the war in Ukraine, a training programme will be held so that Ukrainian canine search and detection instructors and rescue dogs can be trained in the Arcón Method. The aim is to make the search for survivors in the rubble of collapsed buildings more effective and, exceptionally, to enable these instructors to replicate the Arcón Method training with other canine rescue teams in Ukraine, so that more victims of the war can be rescued.

We need your help to cover the travel, accommodation and meal costs of the instructors, trainees, interpreter and volunteers
Neither the instructors nor the volunteers will receive any payment for delivering this training.

“HELP US KEEP SAVING LIVES”

Every donation goes towards strengthening our Arcón Method Canine Rescue Unit and deploying it wherever it is needed. Our members are experienced in disaster response and have worked with great professionalism in the disasters in Pakistan 2005, Haiti 2010, Chile 2010, Ecuador 2016, Mexico 2017 and Beirut 2020, as well as in emergencies here in Spain… Unfortunately, deploying, certifying and continuing to train our canine unit takes financial resources.

With your help and your donation, we hope to raise the resources we need to travel anywhere in the world “where we are officially requested” with a canine rescue unit offering the highest guarantees in locating people who may be trapped alive.

Our mission must be carried out as quickly as possible once a disaster strikes, which is why we need our own resources to respond as soon as possible with the highest guarantees.

“A DONATION CAN SAVE LIVES”

Deployment in Beirut

The Objective

Jaime Parejo, Javier Luque, Jair Pereira, David Cabrera and Pedro Luque. They are the five Andalusian firefighters who, on 7 August, packed their gear and their dogs and flew to Beirut without a second thought, hoping to find signs of life under the rubble left by the explosion that claimed the lives of more than 150 people. They spent three days of intense work there, stopping only to let the dogs rest. As members of the NGO Grupo de Especialistas en Rescate Canino en Catástrofes – Método Arcón (GERCCMA), they have extensive search and rescue experience behind them: Haiti, Mexico, Ecuador, Pakistan and Turkey are just some of the places where they have saved lives.

This time they returned from the mission without rescuing anyone, but convinced that no mistakes had been made and that, wherever they had searched with their dogs, nobody was left alive under the rubble. Their method, the Arcón Method, which took Jaime Parejo 12 years to fully develop, is backed by several governments and by the United Nations, and has a higher detection and success rate than conventional canine rescue.

They never lose hope and never give up on a mission. Corporal Javier Luque is clear about it: “The best moment is when a dog signals, locates and tells you that down there, under a completely silent mass of rubble, there is someone breathing, someone alive.”

Arcón Method

We chose the Arcón Method not only for its governmental, institutional and scientific endorsements but also for its operational record, as it has detected people alive where dogs trained with traditional systems and the most advanced technological systems had failed to do so.
